Team Rules

The head pitmaster is responsible for downloading, viewing and for their team to follow the rules and instructions for competing in PNWBA sanctioned events. If you have a question pertaining to competing, please email the head judges assigned to the event. the rules are copyrighted by PNWBA and are only authorized for use with PNWBA sanctioned events.

Important highlighted changes effective 1/11/2025:

  1. Standard Turn-In Order. After test events and survey results from our members, default event turn-in order is now Chicken, Ribs, Pork and then Brisket.  Turn-in times are still 5 minutes before the hour through 4:59 after the hour, starting at 11:00am unless the event moves the starting time.
  2. Chicken category change.  Redefined to exclude livers,hearts, gizzards, or feet.
  3. Clarified Fire Extinguisher rule - Either a receipt for the approved size extinguisher within 12 months must be shown during inspection or a service tag shown that is valid within 12 months.
  4. Smoking/vaping rule - Prohibit at cooks meeting and awards ceremony. Also some venues prohibit smoking inside or outside premises.
  5. Clarified hand wash station for insulated 5 gallon dispenser with free flow spigot.
